The town of Aspen is situated 208 miles / 332 km from Denver, a major travel and transport hub of the American mid-West. Aspen boasts its own airport, served by several airlines that increase their services during the winter. The Roaring Fork Transit Agency offers bus and free shuttle travel between the various resorts and points of interest. Aspen's nearest Amtrak station is located at Glenwood Springs, while the Colorado Mountain Express connects Aspen with Denver.

Aspen County Airport is located a short drive northwest of Aspen and is served by several domestic airlines as well as the private jets of the rich. During winter, flight frequency is increased and a few more airlines join the fray. There is a free shuttle bus leaving several times per hour during the peak season to Aspen and Snowmass, while taxis and car rentals are also available here.

If neither of the above airports provides you with the flight you need, then Denver International surely will. As it is a major travel and transportation hub, there are regular flights to Denver from across the country. You can either board a connecting flight to one of the smaller airports near Aspen or enjoy the scenic drive aboard a shuttle operated by Colorado Mountain Express.

There is little need for car rental in Aspen as the town is small enough to travel around on foot, while free shuttle buses connect all four resorts during the winter season. However, car rental and 24-hour covered parking is also available in the town. Hiring a car is popular for exploring farther a field during summer, although it isn't much fun during winter when traveling on the roads can be dangerous and Independence Pass is closed. For this same reason, driving from Denver is much more rewarding during the summer months.

Roaring Fork Transit Authority buses ply local routes with free shuttles within Aspen's city limits and between all four resorts during winter. Free shuttles travel within Aspen's Snowmass Village during winter and on a limited schedule during summer. The Colorado Mountain Express offers bus connections between Denver and several destinations in the Rocky Mountains, including Aspen, while Greyhound offers coach travel to all major destinations across the country, including townships along I-70 north of Aspen.

The daily east-west California Zephyr, operated by Amtrak between San Francisco and Chicago, stops at Glenwood Springs, the nearest station to Aspen. From Glenwood Springs, the Roaring Fork Transit Authority operates a shuttle service, providing a useful way to travel into nearby Aspen.
